Enhancement and Certification of Tourist Guides and Tourist Agents’ Green and Digital Marketing Skills in Developing Sustainable Alternative Thematic Tours

The Alter Tours project aim is to address the need of tourist guides and agents to enhance and validate new skills, to meet the current customer preferences for nature alternative tourism.

In response to shifting traveler preferences towards safer and more sustainable tourism options, the EU Parliament has emphasized the importance of sustainable and alternative tourism, including agrotourism, rural tourism, and ecotourism. These forms of tourism not only offer new destinations but also serve as adaptation measures to climate change. Additionally, they contribute to regional development, social welfare, and economic security in local communities.

To meet the evolving demands of the tourism industry, professionals such as tourist guides and agencies must enhance their green skills, digital marketing proficiency, and expertise in developing alternative themed tours. The validation of these skills is crucial for ensuring quality service delivery. Alter Tours addresses these needs by providing education and training to tourist guides and agencies, promoting year-round appealing tourism experiences.

The main objectives of the project are to:

Create a curriculum and an assessed & certified training material on alternative tours design, green and digital marketing skills.
Provide a certification scheme for the recognition and verification of the acquired skills and knowledge.
Extend their competences and support the enhancement of their tours’ portfolio.
