BeMED Laureates Day 2024: Greece, Athens
After 7 consecutive Laureates’ Days organised during Monaco Ocean Week, the Community’s event is now being hosted in various member states. This time in Greece.
At the Higgs premises, BeMed was able to bring together some of the members supported since 2017 through calls for micro-initiatives and calls for projects in the Mediterranean islands.
This annual event is a key moment for the members of the Community to reunite in person, fostering synergies and confronting challenges collectively. Throughout the year, they tackle problems, benefit from each other’s expertise and share experiences to work together on solutions.
On Wednesday April 17, the participants met in Athens to pursue their work in sub-groups, identify challenges and receive specialized training in storytelling. We were delighted by the enthusiastic response from members, with participants representing 8 Mediterranean countries.
We had the honor to welcome H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco during BeMed’s Laureates Day. It was the occasion for the members of the Community of Practice to present the conclusions of their work.
During the day, the members worked on different problematics such as :
- How to involve citizens on the long-term
- How to highlight the cost of plastic
- How to put all the stakeholders around the same table
It was also a great opportunity to discuss what role can the State play in the plastic fight and find solutions all together.
The following day, Thursday April 18, there was a field visit was organized by Network For Children Rights, a Greek association we supported as part of our micro-initiative calls. They kindly hosted us at the Culture Lab, a center for educational programs aimed at raising awareness among children and the Greek community.
Participants were able to see the efforts Greece is making to combat plastic pollution in action.
