CypruSaves: Field Mapping (Cyprus)
A delegation from the Benaki Phytopathological Institute has recently arrived in Cyprus to conduct vineyard mapping in collaboration with Omnia and Zambartas Wineries. During their visit, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and geospatial engineering techniques were employed to perform detailed mapping, a crucial aspect of the project's deliverables.
The CypruSaves project, a part of H2020 Demeter, is implementing Smart Agricultural Pilots in ten vineyards across the Limassol and Paphos Districts, working closely with Zambartas Wines. Omnia, in partnership with the Benaki Phytopathological Institute, will install meteorological stations and ground sensors to analyze data. This data, combined with Space-Satellite Downstream Applications, UAV imagery, and in-field soil analysis, will provide farmers with precise information for more environmentally sustainable and cost-effective agricultural practices.
By integrating Demeter's tools with Omnia's and the Benaki Phytopathological Institute's technological innovations, the project aims to promote smart practices that enhance resource efficiency, covering areas such as water, nutrients, gas emissions, electricity, pesticides, and ultimately leading to higher yields of produce.
