EcoWater: Online Meeting
Omnia, represented by its project manager Mrs. Begum, successfully participated in the international virtual meeting hosted by the Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco, as part of the winning Beyond Plastic Med - BeMed 2023 initiative.
The topic of discussion revolved around the transition to new models that either eliminate or promote alternatives to single-use plastics in the Mediterranean Sea, since the plastivc pollution poses a significant environmental challenge, impacting marine ecosystems, biodiversity, and human health across the MED region. With millions of tons of plastic waste entering the sea annually, the Mediterranean has become one of the most polluted bodies of water globally. Plastic debris threatens marine life through ingestion, entanglement, and habitat destruction, while also posing risks to human activities such as fishing, tourism, and coastal economies. Addressing this issue requires coordinated efforts among Mediterranean countries, policymakers, industries, and communities to reduce plastic consumption, improve waste management practices, and promote sustainable alternatives to mitigate the growing threat of plastic pollution in this iconic sea.
Other organizations that contributed to this topic, alongside Omnia, include Together Cyprus, Rezero, and the Agia Napa Municipality.
