Food Chase Competence Framework!

We are pleased to present the Food Chase Competence Framework, developed within the Food Chase project to support the European food industry in tackling food loss and food waste. This framework serves as a comprehensive reference for the professional skills needed to promote sustainability and strengthen the circular economy across all stages of the food supply chain.

Designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice, the framework connects educators, training providers, and organizations operating in the sector. It supports the development of innovative curricula and practical learning experiences aimed at reskilling and upskilling workers in the food industry.

The framework identifies current skill gaps and future skill needs in waste management across the four key phases of the supply chain:
production, processing, distribution, and consumption.
It also outlines the competences of the From Farm to Fork Specialist, expressed in terms of learning outcomes following Cedefop guidelines.

Structured into five tables, the document includes:

• A set of generic competences essential for all Food Loss and Waste (FLW) experts
• Four sets of specific competences, one for each supply chain phase, to be acquired in addition to the generic ones
