Customization of digital tool to local conditions
The case of water footprint estimation of the south-western Cypriot vineyards
The agricultural sector faces the urgent need for transformative changes, particularly in response to climate change. Challenges include water and soil management, energy use, and greenhouse gas emissions. Digital tools have emerged to aid farmers in managing these issues. However, the accuracy of such tools is a concern since their algorithms rely on global data, which may not suit local conditions. A recent study in Cyprus aims to address these challenges by developing a web-based GIS tool for estimating the Water Footprint of vineyards, customized to local vine varieties and conditions, as part of the CypruSaves project funded by H2020 DEMETER.
